How a man lost 50 pounds using the intermittent fasting diet 5:2 Fasting may seem like a drastic way, but it can be safe and effective when done in moderation, according to the self-improvement blogger. The mechanical engineer, who lives in Michigan, decided to test after joining a weight loss competition in his work in 2011. "From standard grain, protein and sort of vegetarian configuration," explains Wentworth. You can eat some unhealthy foods, he added, but not overdouble. Fasting Days In two non-consecutive days of the week, Wentworth skipped breakfast and lunch, but ate dinner. Since I was almost a whole day without food in those days, he says I had to be careful not to go to dinner. He said he ate a lot of fiber-rich vegetables and foods. I... knew if I ate more vegetables and whole grains that I could eat much more volume, which also helps," he says. "If I had wild buffalo wings or something — some kind of fast food — then it's like there's only a little food for the same amount of calories."
